@t4ll3n91 The anime is based on a game where it takes place it a world filled with youkai.. and just about all the youkai don't look like the youkai they are.... at all.

maybe, who knows, but personally I think he didn't want it to be an anime so he could still mess with it and change it around a bit.
once things go anime they are subjegated to things like 'realism', so, if say, reimu got a new power or revealed an old power that she just hadn't used until recently, ppl would complain about the anime saying that it sucked because it wasn't accurate to what she would do. that reflects on the series as well, thus, possibly why he didn't want it =)
