Oh, and although I usually use superglue with a little spray of accelerator from Stewmac to fuse the ends (with light wire similar to what you do), if you use the burn end thing, dip the end in a little powdered rosin, and the rosin melts and gives a nice fused end. I don't think you can just burn the hair and get a fused end, as it doesn't really stick together, but just burns. If you don't have powdered rosin, just use a junk/broken/melted etc cake, and nip of a bit with the pliers, and crus

Thanks for putting this up. I'm not an expert ... but too have done a few bows. I wish someone who re-hairs a lot of bows would put something up. Another little tip for the new guys, be careful when using the alcohol lamp or blow drier for cinching up the loose hairs. If you get the wood part of the bow too hot, you could accidently warp or bend the bow. Then you have the fun lesson of straightening a bow (using heat from the alcohol lamp), which takes practice. New wedge in after ferrule.

I enjoyed this, I'm gonna have a go on an old bow of mine. There is no one that I know who can do this for me. and the bows that i got recently are just awful compared to my first bow.
interesting but incomplete at least 4 essential tools needed 4 proper rehair... noted in sample rehair previous rehair had ferrule on backwards ... maybe plugs can be reused NEVER wedge

I think this is a fairly no-fuss approach to a rehair. It would be interesting to see the overall difference in consistency/quality/result as compared with the traditional French method that I am familiar with which is decidedly more involved. Not enough attention was devoted to the seating of the tip and frog plugs in your series. Until I can personally see and play a bow rehaired with so many shortcuts, will have no idea how well this works. Thanks.

@wgriffin1024 I don't claim to be an expert at rehairing, but I have played several concerts with my own rehaired bows. Honestly, I can't hear any difference between my rehairs and professional luthiers.
Go figure! lol
