On February 23, 2009 a 53' tractor trailer from Texas got stuck under the el at Crosby Avenue at Westchester Avenue in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx. The big rig was on its way to make a delivery to Carpet Expo. The length of the trailer plus the tandem axel tractor exceeded the 55' total length allowed by NYC DOT.
@MrGrit33 no no, New York is a diffrent story. It is a stinking dump (I grew up there). Drivers from other states don't know if they should trust the below 13' 6 signs. If you go BQE for example, heading north, right under the Manhattan Bridge you have a sigh 12' 9. Truckers are practically getting heart attacks at that spot. But 13'6 fits there with no problem. WTF???? Yeah, "I love ny", sh....How sweet it is.

if i saw right the sign said 13'6". My truck i know we fit through 13'6" as long as it's flat. if there is a down and up swing then we will get stuck. Been under a couple 13'6" underpasses in long island around valley streem with no scrapping. I just don't shift gears t'ill i'm through in case it torques and hits the top....never had a problem with 13' 6"
