Contrast this performance with the Dieskau / Perahia performance. Here, Barenboim is his usual self-conscious self - full of affectations and gross irregularities of tempo. There is a total lack of developmental tension, which is detrimental to the character of this first piece in the cycle. Perahia, by contrast, begins with a brisk and regular tempo that draws one into the entire work. No tricks or gimmicks there - pure Schubertian musicality.

A very nice voice, one of the most beautful I've ever heard.

This is so incredibly beautiful. I love Gute Nacht, and I LOVE Quasthoff. Probably one of the best interpretations I've ever heard. Both he and the pianist brought such nuance to such a repetitive song.
