A brilliant series of commercials by Apple, Inc. supporting the PowerBook line of 1992 and associating the product to the many facets of North American society, culture and business.

In my personal view, early Apple® campaigns were more focused on the customer than on the product, thus purporting the notion that Apple computers were just what any customer needed. By way of example, these commercials make the users prominent, the PowerBook being an extension of their persona, some sort of additional body part, which naturally leads to the final slogan "What's on your PowerBook is YOU." closing the customer-product-customer loop.

The cast is very natural throughout, which makes the commercials even more interesting.

Here is the full series for your viewing pleasure.

  • These were all great except the poet guy on the beach. He was just... weird.

  • :D. Yes, but I guess he was under the effect of recreational drugs. Those were the days when the Mac was still for revolutionaries and for people with left-wing views.

  • Thank you, IL! Yes, I did paste the single videos in one file (that's quite easy with QuickTime Pro), saved them as a new, self-contained movie and then converted it to a divx/AVI file. The comment reflects my opinion and it's comforting to know you agree with it.

  • @acintoli I'd always thought that about Macs, but interestingly Rush Limbaugh has been using Macs forever, and it doesn't get very much more right wing than that. Macs have always really been targeted at the creative and artistic market, which is really full of the more liberal types. But you still had plenty of different types of people using them just like today.

  • i like the old man too

  • lol...niice

  • Did you put them all togehter in one file by yourself? Great job! I also like your comment reg. focusing on the customer than on the product.
