They take a very long time to break down in landfill. Some of them end up out at sea and turtles mistake them for jellyfish and choke on them. They are harmful to a lot of wildlife generally. They are oil based, and the more we use, the more they are manufactured. The amount of oil we have is finite. So take your canvas bags to the supermarket. :)
