I'm just going to mention ahead of time that this video is pretty much a whole lot of talking and not a whole lot of moving pictures. Ultimately that's the nature of the game, as it prefers to use passive strategy as the sole decision-make process (most roguelike are about tactics, involving direct interaction with combat situations). That aside, in my opinion, it would really REALLY help to make this more of a scaled game, where you start small and work your way into bigger and bigger venues. It's still plenty possible to keep things random while that happens, but starting the player out with a way to figure out what's going on would be help. For sure, without the readme I would have no idea whatever, but even with it I'm still left confused after all that. I can see this game becoming more, but it definitely needs more interaction with the player.
