Wireless light communications across a desktop. Steve, our modem guy at Dominion Lasercom, Inc. made little transmitter & receiver antennas to allow him to listen to his music at another desk. This is the kind of stuff Steve likes to do, not because it's necessary, but just because.

Canobeam does this as well for only $15,000 for their heads.
This is pretty darn cool if your setup is used between two buildings that are several hundred feet apart where wifi would crap out.
My wifi is about 150 feet between buildings, and wifi is at limit for decent activity.
Nice work.

txsk8st8 said it, although he didn't say that it is most commonly found on garage doors to make sure something doesn't move into the way.

i could see using this as a way to truely send full speed usb across my house or even 10gigabit Ethernet! (although fiber optic cable would be much better for this and less dangerous than say a 200mw laser

They have those you know? Its called a "laser sensor alarm system" when you disrupt the beam it sets off an alarm, or music in you case. This is not a simple laser this thing is sending the music.
