Fascinated with martial arts since he was a child, Sensei Bill has been involved in martial arts for more than 38 years and has earned three Black Belts in addition to being a tournament winning sword fighter, kick boxer, and weapons master.
At age 10 Sensei began studying Karate at a Chuck Norris Karate school in Granada Hills, California. Sensei paid for his lessons with the money he earned as a newspaper boy and at age 13 earned his Jr. Black Belt.
At age 17, Sensei Bill began studying Shaolin Kung Fu under Grandmaster Douglas Wong of Los Angeles and was with him for many years learning the forms and styles that make up the Shaolin system: Five Animals Style, (Tiger, Crane, Dragon, Leopard, Snake) Seven Star System, Long Fist, White Lotus, Iron Palm, body conditioning, Chinese Stretching, Massage, Chi Gung, meditation.
Drawn to Kung Fu weapons, Sensei Bill absorbed Grandmaster Wong's teachings and was a member of Sil lum (Shaolin) Demo Team performing with staff, sticks, swords, spear, knife, whip chain, three sectional staff, Kwan Do, butterfly knives, double daggers, chop sticks, and common every day weapons. Sensei Bill still continues to study weapons to this day and is a specialist on the history, construction, and use of traditional martial arts
weapons and their modern counterparts.
In his twenties, Sensei Bill earned a black belt in full contact Kickboxing from Sensei Benny The Jet Urquidez, Sensei Blinky Rodriguez, and Sensei Pete Sugarfoot Cunningham at the world famous Jet Center in Van Nuys, California. Sensei Bill was a member of the JetAway demo team and the weapons instructor at the Jet Center for several years until the school was destroyed by the 1994 Northridge earthquake.
In his early days Sensei studied and trained with many different types of combatants including martial artists, amateur & professional fighters, ex-military, police, bail enforcement officers, street fighters, sword fighters, stick fighters, tough guys, bad boys, bikers, gang members and even former prison inmates. The goal was to learn from the toughest people he could find and determine through practical application what worked and what didnt. No matter who the person was or where the technique came from, the goal was to find out if it actually worked in the real world.
Hi Bill, Was it Bill Parent's studio on San Fernando Mission? I went there to and my uncle Jerry Taylor was Chuck Norris's instructor.

@MrMfloor
I stand corrected... it WAS Sensei Bill Parent, Hahaha I had to strain my brain and go pull out some really old files. Were talking what 71 through 73-74, for me anyway. I remember calling him Sensei Bill, I guess his last name morphed in my brain over the years, I have been saying Prentiss for at least a decade ... boy have I got some things to change. I don't remember Jerry Taylor, sorry did he teach at the school I went to?

@MrMfloor
The school was in a shopping center at the corner of Balboa & Devonshire. Sensei Bill taught us Tang Soo Do. I remember "Chuck Norris" was on everything, I can even see the window painting in my mind in big blue & white letters.
Did you ever meet Rob Margolin? He was a Green Belt instructor who taught most of us kids, we called him Mr.Rob back then. We have been buddies for years and were talking backgrounds when we realized he was my instructor at the school.
