Tommy & Kim | Teenage Dream

So if you've been keeping up with my YouTube channel, you'll see that I've mentioned my next video would be something I haven't touched in a LONG time. I wasn't kidding, now was I? :)

I had a really odd goal with this video. Like...really odd. I wanted to make a Tommy/Kim video, 100% cotton candy and bunnies, with NO use of Zeo/Turbo movie footage, no outside footage with Amy Jo or Jason Frank, and no mention or use of 'the letter' or the breakup. I wanted fluff. Pure, uncensored, fluff.

I think it's safe to say that I got it :)

I also wanted to show a much softer side to vidding. Lately, fandoms have felt they need crazy flashes and fast editing to please the eyes. While I'm all for a high-tense video, like my Life in Spandex work, I also think back to the basics is needed. Showing emotion can be twice as hard as fumbling with effects and layers. It took me 3 weeks just to edit this video, trying to match the right clips at the right time and show the right emotion.

Why Tommy and Kim?:
I had realized two things that lead me to making this video. The first was that I didn't have one single Tommy/Kim music video on my account (Sundials being a video, but not a music video.) Now, this isn't my first Tommy/Kim video. Oh no, far from it. When I first started vidding here, I had an insane, crazy amount of requests for said couple. Within 6 months I had dried myself out of any desire to even look at those two. Then I had to delete all those videos when YouTube starting removing my work like it was a candy to snack on. So it's not that I don't like the two. In fact, I love them. They're the picture-perfect Power Ranger couple. They were one of the very few REAL couples we had in the show. What I DON'T love is the imature Degrassi drama that fandom drenched them in, something that I sorta retaliated to in my Sundails trailer. So, I ended up staying away from the two and exploring other aspects to vid.

The second thing that lead me to this video? I had realized the two don't get enough love anymore. While overexposed for a long while, it seems the fandom is starting to hate them more then enjoy them. Trying to pair Jason and Kim and insist that was the real thing instead. I'm all for exploring creative aspects of the show - heck, I'm the one that did a Nick/Vida video. But at the end of the day, you gotta accept what's real and what happened. These two had the longest lasting relationship on PR, and what you could stand to say the most romantic relationship. There aren't any real good videos for them. I wanted at least one perfect video of them for the fandom.

Teenage Dream?:
Oh come on. Look me in the eye and say this isn't the most perfect song for these two. I'm not a fan of Katy's version, I'll come right out and say that. If it weren't for Boyce, I wouldn't even be doing this video, no matter how perfect the song stands to be. But when I heard his rendition, it all just clicked together - the lack of TK on my account, the lack of love, and the perfect song hitting my muse...I had to. I loved his rendition because it brings emotion to the lyrics. It's also less dirty, which is A( perfect for TK and B( More romantic, seeing as I don't feel you need sex to equal love.

I also wanted to do something from the male, Tommy's, POV, because I felt it was more of a challenge to show love from that point of view, and still leave the viewer with that fluffy candy feeling

Everything was edited using Sony Vegas. The effects done in AE CS4

So, did I sail or did I fail? I haven't explored romantic videos as much as I need to (it's never good to find a comfort zone, after all) but I'm hoping this makes up for that. I promise something a bit more manly after this though, whatever that may be :)

wow, totally different from your other things... i hope that didnt come out bad sounding? because its not supposed to. no matter what it is you vid, it turns out even better than im expecting. whether it be crazy effected fast past kick ass videos, or soft touchy feely ones, you make them eye popping and amazing ! honestly you should have a professional carrier for this, because your just too talented at this stuff!

@Lucassssssss7BACKUP Hahaha, no, I totally get what you mean, Like I said, I haven't done a true fluffy romanatic video probably in...*thinks hard* Honestly, pure fluff? I think it was back in 2006. LOL. But thank you so much! I am trying to get into film producing, been accepted into a production company internship, but it's been a struggle to get the money I need for that. So until then, just fiddling away time with these videos :)

that was just wow, the editing, clips used and the version of the the chosen song were perfect. and as you said we dont see barely any kim/tommy videos like this anymore . this has certainly done them justice. and this has shown to me how much they were and still are one of the best couples from the PR series. you cant beat an original. this was just perfect and i cant wait to see what you come up with next.

So this just might be your biggest accomplishment, RC. Everything about this looks cinematic. Not just the movie footage, EVERYTHING. You did an extraordinary job with the editing and the coloring on the video is truly perfect. I mean, I can't over-state it, the definition of perfect. This looks incredible.

For whatever reason, I woke up this morning wanting to find the new "definitive" TK video - I did. This truly resonates with me, Meaningful work on your part. Thank you.

This was just so...SWEET and BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT and...and just...GAH! Shouldn't be possible! TK portrayed this way should make be barf no matter how well done it is. But...I love it. It's perfect. I love this version of the song and how innocent it is. Not completely absent of DESIRE but loving instead of just lusting. And honestly the contrast between this and Perry's trashy version is part of what works so well for this video in general. You know the lyrics, it's impossible not too, but

And I might actually start listening to this song more often, just because of Your version :) I'm a big romantic at heart so this vid really appeals to me... The clips, the emotions, that version of Katy's song - a match made in Heaven. Just lke Tommy and Kim. The best PR couple ever...
