This is a version of the 60's classic, 'Puff, the Magic Dragon', written for the 8-bit Atari. I'm not sure who wrote this as there is no name in the program, in the code, or on the disk I had it on. If you have any information, let me know and I'll be sure to add it!

The program randomly chooses a color for the background on startup. The lines and dots always stay the same colors (the standard 8-bit Atari background blue and cursor blue respectively).

Played on an Atari 130XE and recorded through a TV Capture Card.

  • I used to have this on a FPCL music collection disc. Off the top of my head the disk also contained: Octopus Garden, Tubular Bells, The Russian Dance, Hill Street Blues Theme and several other songs

  • That's pretty interesting, because I did actually get this one from an old FPCL disk. The disk contains a few pieces of music, but mine doesn't have any of the songs you listed. Mine includes songs like the Peter Gunn theme, the 12 Days of Christmas, and the Pineapple Rag (which I also posted).

  • Well,

my wife once typed in the notes of Puff the magic dragon for a program called "Musica". Maybe someone converted them into this sound demo... Besides, where did you get this demo from ?!? Any download link available ?!?

  • I'm sorry, I don't know of anywhere that you can download this. It's actually something that I've had on a disk since the 80's. There are a few other miscellaneous pieces of music on the disk (one of them being the Pineapple Rag that I also posted), but there is no indication anywhere as to where this one came from or who wrote it.

  • I realize that. In fact, if you looked at the tags, you would see that I actually included "peter paul mary" in them. I was saying that I don't know who wrote this piece of software for the Atari.

I'm a little worried that next you're going to accuse me of thinking the Ghostbusters song was an Atari original, too :)

  • Great

  • God I love this song.

  • That I agree upon.

If something's gone from bad to worse, or if things hadn't worked out like I believe I would, then that rendition of the song would play as my sad theme. Even if it's my bad luck, I just feel like giving up everyone and everything I care about and bury myself in my life's work.

Very moving, and yet points out my depression... I may be saying a lot of detail, but I just thought everyone would like to know.

  • IT WASNT? lol jk
