This video demonstrates the process of creating a single-seed seeded field and a boundary seeded field base on a binary 2D image of an object. The process of centerline extraction based on the two fields is also visualized.
Due to institution regulations, I can't share you the code. As for references, you can start from "Efficient Skeletonization of Volumetric Objects" by Zhou and Toga. However there are other centerline extraction methods/codes readily available, e.g., VMTK and Fast Marching Minimal Path Extraction in ITK.
