work I made after leaving my degree, at ST Fagans pottery Cardiff (work there while on my dergee too) Using red earthenware clay(terracota) and slips for decorating. Didn't really appreciate slipware until I had to work with it, still love it now even though I don't make with it now.

  • hello! i was working at st fagans for a couple of the holidays with gareth, and you must be the guy who worked there for a while? i particularly like the non-fagans style work by the way.. are you still making?

  • hi! Yep I was that guy (Rich) who worked at st fagans for while, had fun learnt a lot there! Yeah still making but now working in stoneware and firing in reduction. Will put a clip up of some work at some point. Thanks again for the comment. So you still there in st fagans, or still studying at UWIC? Thanks again

  • im at UWIC in my third year, concentrating on that at the moment! i had already been in a pottery for a couple of years before getting to UWIC so it would be nice to work in another pottery after uni (but probably not st fagans). so are you selling in galleries now?

  • Not selling in galleries at the moment, apart from two in Cardiff. Left StFagans to become a technician and lovin it, been developing my work for the last year or so but undertaking a teaching course and teaching part time so a bit busy with everything else, hoping to get in galleries by the summer this year. what other pottery you work in before st fagans?

  • LOVED the teapots in your last vid (Very Inspiring). I just assumed they were stoneware... but your earthenware comment has made me curious. Were the teapots stoneware? And were the handles and spouts extruded?

    THanks, very awesome work.

  • hi thanks or your comments.

No all the teapots were earthenware, the greeny-blue ones were fired to 1140 C, but the pinky ones were fired to 1060C, although had crazing problems with both glazes the pinkish glaze destroyed quite a few of my teapots.

The handles and end of the spouts were extruded but the additions that they fit into were all thrown.

    thnaks again

  • nice.

  • Fabulous stuff! Really impressive and inspiring. I especially like the splashy decoration on these pots: it harkens back to traditional Asian decoration, but it looks contemporary, and it's completely distinctive, and very appealing. Yes, I assumed all the teapots were stoneware too; I wonder why you preferred to work in earthenware? Anyway, thanks. Please post more videos!

  • Love the work. I think you should do more porcelain. With the colors you explore, the shapes and forms, you could really take it into the realm of the fantastic even more. The white/powder-bluish one was touching on elegance and grace that is eastern. I love simple form and color with just a twist. I think you get more that way in my opinion. You're an artist, that much is clear, not just a potter. Great work!
