If your shelter has someone in charge of fostering, talk to her about your concerns. She most likely has been through it herself often enough and can discuss your concerns and limits. It isn't just kittens in need - shy cats who need time to come around, injured cats who need recovery time, chronic snifflers, or for the really crazy fosterers... neonates (newborns, no mom). Sometimes it takes specialized training, it always takes a big heart, but it's always worth it.

And a good way to wind up with more cats :-)

@closereaching Thanks for replying. =) I've been curious about fostering for the shelter I volunteer with, but thought of how stressful it might be to my cats to be introduced to a new cat/kittens -- plus if the fosters are sick with something (A respiratory infection or whatever), getting my own cats sick. . . Stuff to think about. Hmmm.
Also, I was wondering, do you have other cats? If you're fostering kittens like that, how does that work? Do you have to keep them separate or does it just depend on the cats?

@cherrybombchick666 I do have a cat of my own. Personally, I always keep my fosters separate, in a room that is easy to clean (spare bathroom; ie, no carpet). Plus, my cat prefers it if he doesn't have to see them. :)

Thanks, all, for the kind comments. I created this video in hopes that it might inspire others to foster. Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience, and a tangible way to help your shelter save lives!

Original song is from Walt Disney's Dumbo.

@mks1l Correct! :) This particular version is voiced by Alison Krauss.
