Karanprayag or Karnaprayag is one of the Panch Prayag (five confluences) of Alaknanda river, and Pindar river in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, at an average elevation of 1,451 metres (4,760 feet). It is on the way to Badrinath.

A temple dedicated to Uma Devi (Daughter of the Himalayas) is situated at the confluence of the rivers. The stone seat where Karna did penance is also seen here.

The stone temple was rebuilt by Guru Adi Shankaracharya. A steep row of steps from the temple along a spur leads to the confluence point.

The five prayags are Vishnuprayag, Nandprayag, Karanprayag, Rudraprayag and Devprayag. Allahabad where the Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati join, is known as Prayag.

The Prayags are rich not only in mythological folk-lore and legend but also in scenic beauty of the Himalayan snow-covered peaks and enchanting valleys.

The Pindari River, arises from the Pindari glacier, below the Nanda Devi hill range. Nanda Devi can be seen, towering above at 7,816 m (25,634 ft) surrounded by an array of glittering peaks.

It is said that Karna of Mahabharata meditated and worshipped the Sun God for many years here, to acquire the impregnable shield, which made him a formidable warrior in the battlefield.

Swami Vivekananda meditated here for eighteen days with his Guru Bhai, Guru Turianand ji and Akharanand ji.

Classical work by the legendary poet Kalidasa, called the Abhijnana-shakuntala mentions that Shakuntala and king Dushyanta's romantic daliance occurred here.

Roads from here go to Almora, Nainital and Jim Corbett National Park. Karanprayag is also the base for treks to the Pindari Glacier and Roopkund.
