  • I thought the Bronte's died when they were quite young. The photo looks like an older woman to me

  • Hi ,Charlotte was 38 when she died, But I think people did used to look a lot older in those days as they had much harder lives often cut short due to illness. But you could very well be right about the photo being of an older lady, I guess we will probably never know for sure!

  • people always talk about how unattractive she is, i think she was very pretty. Even the photos are attractive.

  • What was beauty then isn't necessarily beauty now - look at Rodin paintings. People aged much faster and lived shorter lives, even if they were of aristocracy.

  • I'm wondering if what you're seeing is actually really painful, bad (and missing?) teeth - which is giving her a prematurely "old" expression. Also, having her photo taken at all would have been painful from shyness, so she's probably very nervous and unrelaxed.? Plus, isn't this crucially a photo of someone in serious grief? How would any of us look if we've been losing all our family? Anyway, she's beautiful whatever: if real living eyes wouldn't have said it all: Talent to Burn.

  • @Josette1795 yeah, people are obsessed with looks, even though looking perfect only becomes a necessity for those with no other talents, right? ;)

  • Was she even in Haworth when she died? Wouldn't she have to be in order to haunt it? I don't know how this works...

  • I do believe the photo is of Charlotte Bronte..

As for the death mask, surely she would have more of an emaciated face and features if we are to believe her mortal frame was so wasted by the time of her death.

I dont recall any evidence in books that a death mask was made.

Surely Patrick her father would have mentioned it as a matter of pride. George Richmond's portrait was very much artistic licence to make something prettier than it was .

  • @Josette1795 It is worth checking out Rev Sutcliffe Sowden's discription of Charlotte, when he married her to Arthur Bell Nicolles. 1854

  • That is a much older woman without doubt..

  • are there any final, scientific answers about that mask and photos?

  • Kind of destroys her expertise, to discard such an important peice of memorabilia.

  • Audrey to me, certainly wants to be the centre of attention! Its like she wants loads of credit. But she chucked the hair away lol.

  • i belive everything in this vid very creepy i resently went to the graveyard last week at night didnt feel alone da y i looked it up n christ i find this
