Adhaan in British Sign Language by Al Isharah

The adhaan, the Islamic call to prayer, is one of the most distinguishable elements of Islamic culture.

Since the time of the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh), the adhaan has remained the same. However, this beautiful call to prayer has not been experienced by the Deaf community, until now.

Under the guidance of a qualified Sheikh, Al Isharah took the initiative to translate and create the adhaan in to British Sign Language (BSL).

In Ramadan 2011, Al Isharah partnered with Mercy Mission to broadcast the first televised adhaan created for the UK's Deaf Muslim Community.

Allah (swt) has no place of living. That is a human characteristic, and a characteristic of Allah's creations; and Allah is much greater and far different than his creation. So by the hand gesture pointing to the sky whenever it says Allah in the adhan suggests that he exists in the sky, it makes it seem as though he posses a similar to that of his creation (astagfirullah). Therefore, i dislike this.

Therefore the pointing to the sky is not to put Allah in a place but rather Affirm that he is beyond place and too great to be in one, for the act of point up also indicates that which is limitless.

Allah alone and is the One called upon when a person makes supplication (du'a) faces the sky, just as those performing the prayer (salat) face the Kabah, since the sky is the qiblah of those who supplicate, as the Kabah is the qiblah of those who perform the prayer...'

Thank you for your post, and highlighting the fact that Allah is not in a direction, or a specific place, for He is the creator of direction and time. However the act of pointing to the sky is not placing Allah in the sky literally, rather saying that Allah the Most Lofty and High is beyond creation i.e. not part of it.

haha I can't believe someone has the nerve to criticize this BSL Adhan video because he "dislikes" the sign for ALLAH, which is pointed upward... This is SIGN LANGUAGE, this is how we Deaf folks express ourselves. We express ourselves differently from hearing Muslims! So we're not allowed to express our love for Allah in sign language because of the sign pointed upward??? Get over it and get a life!!!
