From the Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, MA, comes this video shot with two XDCam EX. This is a shock video of the "Shockwave" truck, driven by Kent Shockley and designed by his dad, Les Shockley, on it's (unexpectedly) final run. Something went wrong while the truck was at-speed, causing it to veer to the right and do a series of rolls.
Footage was taken from two cameras and there is a slow motion replay near the end, showing what happened in more detail.
The driver miraculously escaped uninjured, thanks to the great safety engineering that went into the cab of the truck.

  • how many miles per gallon do you think that thing gets?

  • @bkboy747 I think the more accurate expression would be "gallons per mile"!

  • did the driver die?

  • No. You can see he gets out of the truck shortly after coming to a stop. Only very minor injuries, thanks to excellent roll cage inside the truck.

  • Awesome video and awesome truck - nice sound recording also

I was probably the parachute that didn't open that caused the crash.

The braking force from the one that did open was probably mostly applied to one side of the truck, wich caused it to turn and tip over. Good thing that the driver didn't got hurt.

  • Thank you. My partner and I used the awesome new CineAlta line of HD cameras from Sony, and Rode's NT4 stereo microphone.

My thoughts exactly on the parachute imbalance causing the swerve. I'm guessing it was so severe that Kent could not steer out of the sideways skid.

  • That jet is grounded for sure

  • flip at 300 mph, roll a couple times, back on the wheels, and roll on the wheels to a stop, get out, check the tires, engines, etc. I love this video.

  • is there gonna be one in 2011?

  • do a barrel roll!

  • And the point of this show is??.....because they have lots of oil an like to burn it? or they just like polluting a little bit? aahh!!! wait ...people were cold and wanted some heat.

  • the announcer is so casual, I don't think the people initially knew he crashed!!!

  • Was he able to drive it home?

  • @bkboy747 Yeah what a dim-wit. "AH DURRRRRRRRH DID HE JUST GO BACKWARDS AND ROLL SEVERAL TIMES WAS THAT PART OF THE ACT OMGGGGGG SERIOUSLY"

  • See this is what I hate...it takes me forever to hear about stuff like this. Didn't hear about Jimmy Franklin, Bobby Younkin, Jim Leroy, and Shockwave until years or months after it happens. Hardly anything ever gets brought up about it at the Quad City Air Show that I attend every year..At least I heard about Kyle Franklin and his wife a month after it happend...hopefully his wife pulls through. Long live Air Shows!

  • @Helicopterpilot16 Cop said you're going with the ambulance or with me.. i was up close.. he was pissed at all emergency responders... an asshole.
