I went with my buddies to shoot varmint on an orchard in Julian, San Diego where the rabbits, squirrels, coyotes, were destroying his orchard, chewing through the drip system and putting his livelihood at stake. The owner asked for our friend Dan to come on his property to take care of the varmint that is destroying his orchard and Dan asked us to come along to help.

This is video is meant to help and not entertain. I am learning how to gut a cotton tail for the first time. I wanted to pass this information along to help other new hunters. My buddy Scott can be heard and seen guiding me, making sure I clean the rabbit thoroughly and correctly. Special thanks to Melissa for filming for me and Scott for teaching me.

I shot this rabbit with a Mathews Passion Compound Bow. I used Bludgers on my tips.

  • got 1! guts have the coolest color palette, don't they?

  • @nickgnaime so i ate the rabbit last night...my friend really seasoned it well. But the memories of me having to clean up a rabbit after my dogs caught one, killed it, and left it to rot on the concrete on the driveway just kept oozing back in. The rotting smell is just so strong and visuals of it kept coming back. So i really couldn't eat another rabbit unless i was stranded on an island with nothing left to eat. Last night though i sucked it up and ate 2 legs and meat around the ribs.

  • Woman vs wild. :) Very interesting.

  • @rolpal619 hahahaha Yep. I dilly dally in numerous fields. Mainly anything outdoors related.

  • Lucky Yogi !!! haha :) ur still cute in my books :)

  • @grizzol ahh. that's good. haha. Was starting to get worried people would seriously be upset with this video but since it was seriously the greatest learning experience for me. First time. I thought it would be good to pass along the info.

  • That's cool. I've cleaned rabbits my whole life, but there's NO WAY I would ever get my wife to do that! lol

  • You could have done that way easier with the skin on... Just put a vertical slice in the lower abdomen then grab it by the head and front legs and give it a flick toward the ground and all the guts fly out on to the ground . Way less messy and way easier

  • @LuckyYogi Oy! haha I know the rotting rabbit scene. Grew up with animals myself. Not a good thing to picture while eating one haha. Should amade jerky out of it or something =)

  • @ahanaks Haha yeah. at least now i know how to skin and gut a rabbit. I later asked Scott how I would cook it. So now i know how to do that too. So if i was stranded, I'd be ok if I have a bow with me :) As for the rabbits we caught and cleaned, Ieft them with him to cook. Want to try it the first time cooked well. He cooks really freaking good. He's been hunting since he was 15 I think? or younger.

  • @nickgnaime Definitely. Gutting this rabbit reminded me of when we would dissect pigs in high school. I always fascinated of what was contained in such a little body.

  • love these vids now just want 2 watch you cook the rabbit on an open campfire lol.
