  • I use a small locking shackle - It's not much bigger than the cringle eye, and if you notice, I have the boat hove-to a bit off the wind, so it floggs to leward. The danger of getting smacked in the face is pretty minimal - just keep track and be aware of your surroundings.

  • Hi Bill, Alley says hi. I've been wondering since I first sailed with you on Nomad; does the clip you use for your jib sheets pose a problem when the sail is luffing under high winds? Does it flail about?

    I use knots, I dig the idea of using a quick release shackle but I am afraid that under wind pressure the quick release would whip back and forth and very possibly give me a pretty good smack in the face.
