Lava ends its journey from the East Rift Zone of Kilauea after traveling seven miles in lava tubes under the surface. Violent steam explosions occur as ocean water quenches the lava exiting the tubes, and large amounts of black sand and lava spatter are thrown many feet into the air.
These clips show the ocean entry plume from pre-dawn darkness to early morning daylight. The orange glow from the lava normally seen in low light conditions cannot be seen in full daylight, but details of the spatter and black sand eruptions can be more clearly seen. Also shown is a panoramic view from the Royal Gardens Subdivision to the ocean entry plume.

Why no sound on video?

It was too windy out in the open and all I got was annoying wind noise. I wasn't close enough to hear the lava spattering or the ocean surf.
