I used to have a Norwegian Forest Cat, and one of the best tools to keep it's fur good, is a slicker brush. start off osing the broom as you would your hand when stroking the cat, I often started with the chins, which seemed natural for the cat. That way you are socializing with the cat as well as combing it.
I barely had to do anything else than that. Occasionally, a knot formed along the belly or between it's legs, and then I'd simply brush, or cut it out with a small scissor.

My god that is a lot of hair that got removed! I used to comb my long-haired cat and think that he shed alot, but in comparison to this it was nothing... wow. Plus he always asks me incessantly to brush him :) though he never has any mats.. I guess fur type varies depending on the race of the cat?

that is the best behaved cat! i ahve a pure bred persian adn she lets me brush her but god forbid i go near her with the clipper, the noise freaks her out!

She holds the kitty the same way I hold mine when I have to groom them, so at least I know I'm not doing anything wrong when holding them like that when bathing (grabbing by the neck area) or brushing their fur. I leave the nail clipping to the vet....

not the paws! They are so cute :(

What is that first tool that she used to brush the cat out? It looked like a razor type comb, I would really like something like that because my persian has lots of fluffy thick hair....
-
@pointtoe BTW if you not groom the cat she gets knotty and have difficulties of walking and my cat once bite off one knot which caused her a lot of pain, so ...............

This cat so mellow, mine is getting crazy on the 5-th minute..it's sutch a struggle...

You can comb Persian cat in normal way, not holding cat by head that how you are doing is really cruel.... My Persian have longer and thicker coat but I never com her like you did…
does a persian get like that even if you groom him everyday??

it depends on the cat, each one has its own unique hair structure so some may have thick hair and others may have thinner more flyaway... if you are diligent about your grooming and brush properly on a regular basis then you would not need to have this type of pet cut which makes it easier for the owner to maintain... so it depends on the owners diligence as well as the type of hair the cat has...
