  • first off NEVER staple data wire..

second yes there is 8 wires, but it is referred to as 4-pair, its data/com wiring not electrical... we count pairs, not wires....

third, its blue, orange, green, brown - identify them in the proper order

fourth you use a 110 punchdown blade to terminate the jack not needle nose pliers..

  • All great tips. I got a punchdown blade tool after the video. Boy is that a great tool....

  • @AsktheBuilder don't you need a modem to access the internet

  • @miesrah12 Only if you don't possess mystic powers and great skills and magic like I do. :->

  • Hello

    i have a Ethernet problem

i am running 6m Ethernet from a phone jack,my internet keeps cutting out

i cant take nothing apart, just need a quick fix

my question is how would i bypass all house wiring and run a new line or rigg a eathernet cord up

  • @AsktheBuilder but you need to connect to an ISP

  • I know someone already mentioned about the using plyers, instead of a poper 110 punch down, but you also should start all the wires in the inside of the jack not the out side as you showed

  • @nypj you may not need it for internet speeds but you may need it for networking and file sharing

  • @AsktheBuilder yea but im still happy with my Verizon Fios internet serves

  • when you have wireless you run the risk of having someone steal your information or your connection. and fiber optics in a home? c'mon, that's overkill. cat 5e is perfect... anything else is a waste.

  • cat 5 only handles 10/100

    cat 6 handles 10/100/1000

    a T1 is only 1.5Mbps so no reason for cat 6 with a T1

you plan for the future when wiring, CAT 5 is all that is needed now - unless you have optimum ultra - but in the future FTTH and DOCISS 3.0 will become more standard

also, with CAT 6 you need to upgrade your NIC cards and routers/switches to gigabyte stuff for the increased speed..

  • most people punch down the jack and patch panel using the B code also...
