  • Got a question, should your strong hand thumb ride on top of the safety on a 1911? All the top IPSC shooters hold the 1911's like that, but i'm aprehensive due to apparent "slide bite" if your thumb moves slightly to the right. any advice?

  • It should, for a couple of reasons. One is that the safety is designed that way, some safeties are extended so that you have more room for the thumb to lay on. Secondly, it's to make sure that your thumb doesn't engage the safety by having your thumb push up by mistake and lock up the gun. That would be a bad thing in competitive shooting as well in combat and in home defense. Just make sure you where your thumb is, close but not that close. Hope this helps you out. Thanks & good luck

  • wow no hearing protection, you are hardcore

  • Hardcore, my ass. I'm wearing in ear hearing protection. I'd be crazy or already deaf not to wear protection at an indoor shooting range.

  • Sorry if I double post, but I'm wondering if the 1911s need to have the hammer cocked before it can fire or can it fire regardless of hammer position. I'm new to handguns and still trying to understand all the correct terms. Thanks for the help. Awesome handgun btw!

  • It's like this, the hammer can be cocked back manually, but if there's no bullet in the chamber it won't fire. There are two ways to have a bullet put in the chamber. one is to simply rack the slide back and then let the slide rack back forward...a bullet will then be pushed into the chamber. Two, is rack the slide back then manual put in a bullet with your hand in the chamber and then let the slide go forward,at which point the hammer will be set to pop that bad boy whenever you pull the trigger

  • Does it have a problem with hollow points

  • p-14 mags fit, I have a springer 14+1

    model PW9701LP

good shooting, they all went in the same hole!

  • That's until you see the steep increase in price of .45 over 9mm. I love my 1911, but it's expensive to shoot :D.

  • lmao you mean earplugs?

  • Would the Para Ordnance P-14 14 round magazines fit in that pistol?

  • He is, they are just the foam kind that go in your ear.

  • I rented a 1911 at a range in both 9mm and .45 ACP. This was the first time I had ever fired a handgun and I must say that not only do I think that the .45 is controllable, but also more fun than the 9mm. I can only imagine what a joy it is to plink around with that gun.

  • Nice group in the black!! Comp 45...seems not to hop as much as other comp 45's I've seen. Whats the comp being used???

  • Thanks for the advice, i think i will start doing that from now on...
