Look around for a church running a course called "Alpha". It covers many of the basics of the faith; like it is "Christianity 101".
I hope you do find a nice church. Good churches are like a huge family, full of mutual support and fun, as well as prayer and worship.
I am a pentecostal. If you get into pentecostal churches, you will need to tread carefully; there are some really nutty ones in the world!

Islam claims to be peaceful, but, if we refuse to accept it, or if we criticise it, they kill.

No; some Muslims WILL convert to Christianity, because there are many doing that every year. Some keep it secret, to avoid being rejected by their family, but the numbers will grow. Once they realise many family members already believe, they admit to each other that they worship Jesus Christ.
The videos with their testimonies are very inspiring to watch.
