Magnus was an expert using a top roll, while pulling toward his own body, and dropping his weight low. Nathan was using the typical novice twisting method. This is where you twist expecting the arm to come down. If you twist far enough you break your own arm, as the humerus cannot take twisting force. The Ref would have stopped the match as soon as he saw what Jones was doing if he was normal competition arm wrestling ref. This the most common novice injury, always from the twisting mistake..
