The Artist Leadership program of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) asks participants to take what they've learned back to their communities. After completing his research on Lakota cultural material in the museum's collections and archives, artist Jim Yellowhawk (Lakota) returned to South Dakota and, in April 2011, hosted a 3-day Youth Public Art Project in collaboration with the Ateyapi youth group of Rapid City. Here Jim Yellowhawk and selected youth and mentors share their personal story on youth identity and the meaning of art. This video was produced by Crow Ridge Productions, Inc., Rapid City, SD.
