Good cover but only Dylan is able to accurately convey the message of it. His is so soaked with irony and sarcasm it's amazing he did that as a 23 year old. Everyone else accidently turns it into a real jovial and happy song.

I think people really miss the message dylan was trying to convey with this song. He was bringing to light the irony of a so called "Godly Nation" committing atrocities "with god on our side".

Great singing and playing, but this isn't a religious song. It's an anti-war song. They say "God's on our side" in order to justify war. The idea is that God is not on the side of any nation. The millions of lives lost under the false idea we're doing God's work.

"If God's on our side, he'll stop the next war." Does anybody think God would approve of some of the atrocities our nation has committed in his name?

I dedicate this to the Christians with " god on their side " who murdered the non-christians in the Inquistion, the Crusades, the Puritanical witch burnings, the genocide against the native americans , the nazi's {who were christians] and now all the christians [with " god on their side"] who are murdering muslims. Exactly right, this song doesn't work if you sing without the sarcasm and contempt.
