***Dec. 6th 2011*** Apple Just Bought Another 120 +/- Acres on Hwy 321across from the existing Data Center adjoining their existing 75 Acres that Apple Claims is Merely a Solar Farm - If the Solar Farm Release is True it would be the biggest solar farm you have ever seen. Why then, would they pay $580 Excise Tax for Catawba County NC + 1 Acre parcel ID# 362712964704 that is $290k for 1 more acre of solar Farm? I don't think so - This is the New East Coast Apple Headquarters - You heard it here first. Stay Tuned...

The latest news on Apple they have purchase more adjoining land and the new solar farm is rumored to be merely 5 acres dedicated to solar and the rest is rumored to be a training center integral to their I-cloud strategy. The location may eventually be much more than anyone ever imagined.

They would need a million times more panels than you could even get on the roof to power that joint. That building is sucking down more juice than Lindsay Lohan at an open Bar.... Combine that with what Duke Energy is paying for solar right now in this region...peanuts...It is almost not even worth doing solar

When this development is completed it will be massive not only in size but also in Scope - This thing is so massive and expensive - Word is some of the contractors had to live on site...Apple will soon be netting $50 Billion per year from here...

$7.5 million incentive package to create 50 new jobs. Yeah, makes sense to me.

Just because 1 preacher in Maiden says something completely ignorant doesn't mean that the WHOLE town will agree with what he says. I'm from Maiden, went to the high school, and there were plenty of gay people there that I was friends with- that didn't get made fun of or picked on and had no death threats against them. It's ignorant that you would suggest not buying products from a company just because they built a data center in a town that has a "bad egg". You can find bad people EVERYWHERE.

Maiden, NC -- the same town with the church that wants to exterminate gays in concentration camps. Money spent on apple products goes to support this wretched little community.

Wondering how much money it cost just to fly this helicopter over it and record a simple video?

"There isn't a rule that says they have to help revitalize that town to it's former glory days." You're right, but when you get about 7.5 million in tax breaks to create some jobs, you'd think you'd be getting more then 50 jobs, ($150,000 per job)

well the IT department is often pretty solidly windows in today's corporate environments, with linux supplementing specific roles where 'The Redmond Way' was prohibitively expensive or the solution could be done better or suited to specific needs using Linux, often these services on Linux are somehow tied into the larger windows directory and accessed using windows computers. I'm likely ranting about stuff you are familiar with. The systems *outside* of IT is where things are now different.
