Muslim families make a point of raising some cows as pets, only to later slaughter them in celebration of this horrible story. The parallel to Abraham being a willingness to sacrifice something you love, if God tells you to. Creating an emotional attachment, just to break it, and then offer your suffering as loyalty to God - madness.

And liberals and moderates need to get it in to their thick heads just how many psychotics they're apologising for, by not condemning this sick Bronze Age rubbish.

Please, if that voice comes to you and tells you to kill your child. See a psychiatrist. For all humanity, please go see a psychiatrist.

Actually you are not reading the text properlly, because Abraham was never commanded to "kill" his son. He was commanded to take the son up the mountain to make a sacrifice there. In fact later when Issac asks where the the animal was, Abraham responds that it will be provided there. When there was none Abraham was confused and he thought that he was supposed to slaughter his son. Then the angle appears and shows him an animal that was caught by its horns. Read the Hebrew text carefully.

In fact, when Abraham is going to the mountain he tells his servants to wait there with the donkey until they would perform services and "they" would return. The word VE-NU-SHOO-VU is a plural word meaning "we" will return. Abraham was not lying. He truly believed that he would return with his son.

Well in the King James bible the passage reads like this : Now it came to pass after these things that god tested Abraham, and said to him "Abraham!", and he said, "Here I am." Then he said, "take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moraih, and offer him( reffering to Isaac) there as a burnt offering..." I know some meaning is lost in translation but to get that important detail wrong i dont think so, would you think people would be careful to get it right

Think of the number of schizophrenics who have heard the voice of God telling them to kill people, and they've gone ahead and done it. Yes okay they're crazy, we know that, but the real problem is the voice they hear telling them to kill someone is not inconsistant with the God of the Bible.

In other words a schzophrenic with this disorder cannot be rationalised with by telling himself God would never make such a request, since, according to the Bible he would, and has.

Jeptha killed his daughter and his slave because god helped him win a war. According to the bible he made a deal with god.
