Erwin Schrott as Colline from Puccini's La Boheme.

Vecchia zimarra, senti,
io resto al pian, tu ascendere
il sacro monte or devi.
Le mie grazie ricevi.
Mai non curvasti il logoro
dorso ai ricchi ed ai potenti.
Passâr nelle tue tasche
come in antri tranquilli
filosofi e poeti.
Ora che i giorni lieti
fuggîr, ti dico: addio,
fedele amico mio.
Addio, addio.

    Ciao.

  • His voice is heartbreakingly beautiful. Any video of him as King Philip? Does he sing it, or not yet?

  • Operalover. Thanks for uploading this video.

  • this is wonderful!

  • A sensitive rendition of this aria. Although this role is usually sung by older singers with darker voices, nowhere does it say that the character of Colline is an ancient man with a voice dark and deep like the tomb. He is one of four young bohemians sharing a flat in Paris, and the aria is a farewell to the folly and optimism of youth. Bless him for not trying to artificially darken his tone, instead using his own healthy, youthful sound. I think he will grow into this aria magnificently.

  • I agree that his voice is a bit light for this, but wow, what a moving rendition. "Vecchia zimmara" is one of my all-time favorites, and he sings it with complete understanding that he is saying goodbye to this woman who has been his friend and who has brough his good friend so much joy. Bellisima.

  • This is really Schrott! He lives up to his surname!

  • Cleavage lol.

  • @bodiloto Invidio i mari che lui attraversa-

    invidio i raggi delle ruote

della carrozza che lo porta in giro-

    invidio le curve colline

    che osservano il suo viaggio.

    Tutti possono vedere facilmente

    quel che invece-ah, cielo-

    a me è vietato assolutamente.

  • @bodiloto Che grande, bodiloto, Shhhhhhhhhh.

  • Absolutely beautiful! If he wants to he really cab sing.

  • Belle voix, en vérité, belle interprétation!

  • Why is he singing this? He sings Giovanni for gods sake. He's a lyric baritone. This is so artificial in his voice

  • I really don't see why cutting Colline's aria would be a valid artistic choice; it's not just a 'farewell to my coat' song...it's a 'farewell to everything that this coat symbolizes' song, that is, an era of my life is ending. It is doubly important in that the chords of the end of Colline's song are also the chords that end the entire opera; even more than the pawning of the coat for Colline, Mimi's death is the end of a (more or less) happy-go-lucky era in the bohemian lives of the characters.

  • Yes he's beautiful and Yes he is a very good singer too!

  • I didn't even know Colline had a song, albeit short, it is so not often performed.
