Joel Hodroff - Dual Currency Systems
Joel has been on the leading edge of new money design and development for over a decade. His dual currency system, currently beta testing in Minneapolis, is one of the first of its kind and seeks to offer monetary rewards for volunteerism and healthy living in a similar way to how you can earn frequent flier miles or reward points on a credit card.
Recorded on May 2nd, 2007 at Solutions Volume 1 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

How to get started? What software can we use?

These are great ideas. What we need is this kind of discussion about how we can do things better. The broken monetary system we have EMERGED rather than being designed. There wasn't a lot of thought that went into long term effects, how the system could work FOR people rather than against, etc. There are lots of ideas out there now for exchange systems and exchangeless systems that can work better than what we currently have. They should all be tested.

"If money wasn't such a hassle, wouldn't we be enjoying more art, recreation, leisure, travel, spending more time with family?"
Jct: Yes, getting rid of the hassle is key. He didn't spend enough time explaining his credit notes but won't rewarding people be easy when all we have to do is register their Hours the contribute in a timebank that they can call on later in life.

While I'm naturally suspicious regarding who and what decides who and what is "worthy of reward" in that it seems like an interesting way to repackage the age old story of one a small group of people controlling a large group of people, the video itself is quite enlightening, and I'll take the potential for being rewarded straight into someone elses definition of life with an eye opener like this one any day.

Food is not a scarse resource? Tell that to the masses of starving people around the World.
