3.APR.1956. When mother Mattie Lane's (BETTY GARDE) $20 dissappears from Mattie's sewing machine, which Mattie had been saving as a down payment for a vacuum machine, tension arises between Sarah (TEAL AMES) and Mike (JOHN LARKIN) since both Mike and Sarah, especially Mike, suspects Jack (DON HASTINGS), Mattie's youngest son and Sarah's wannabe bad brother, as the culprit. MARK RYDELL co-stars as suave thug Walt Johnson along with MARY MOOR as Betty Jean Battle and MAXINE STUART as Grace O'Keefe.

  • Yes, I iiked Betty Garde whom I first recall seeing in a disturbing Twilight Zone re-run episode, "The MIdnight Sun".

  • Two much missed soaps, ATWT and EDGE. Don Hastings (Jack Lane/Bob Hughes) and Mark Rydell (Walt Johnson/Jeff Baker) had connections to both shows.

  • @Soapking1965 I agree...When Procter & Gamble started to loose interest signified the end...I remember when P&G pleased Edge fans CBS canceled Edge to expand to World Turns to an hour, and P&G refused to let Edge die and continued the series on ABC...Unfortunately by 1984, P&G was strictly into saving money/expenses & Edge had run its course...

  • Edge looks like it was great from the very start. All the hep-cat talk was funny, Daddy-o! Mark Rydell was a strong presence in his scene.

  • "Could somebody please find the original opening of EON?"

  • Stunning. Interesting to see Betty Garde rather than "my" Mattie, Peggy Allenby. I believe Peggy took over the role after the first few weeks of the show. It was also a treat to see Mark Rydell, whom I remembered as Walt from the summer of 1956. So good to see "young" John Larkin and Teal Ames. And a tip o' me hat to Don Hastings who's had a great TV career seemingly forever!

  • What a beautiful version of the closing theme, though I suspect the episode ran short and necessitated some improvisation with the newly minted theme. Thanks so much for posting.

  • Look at Don Hastings. How young he is here. He would go on to be Dr Bob Hughes on As The World Turns for many many years.

  • I loved this! Just fantastic. I can't believe this was the second episode. And wow look at that weird ATWT bumper at the end.

How long was Grace O'Keefe around? I really like her.

Fantastic work from all the cast. I can see why Teal Ames was so popular, she's vulnerable yet strong. Also great to see such a young Don Hastings.

And I love the organ music which goes from serious to wacky polka time.

  • Wow! What a find! Thanks for posting this!
