Procedures gone awry and cases of wrong prescription are slowly emerging as the biggest and most persistent stain on Kenya's medical practice. The medical past is littered with horrifying tales and graves that are a direct result of a cancer that is slowly eating into one of humanity's most noble professions.

  • @smithlovekenya Most doctors are good in my obviously biased opinion.. Only thing is maybe our public relation may not be up to scratch because it is not taught in med school.. And also the notion that anyone in the hospital who is not a nurse is a 'doctor'? Maybe that is where the knowledge should start..

  • @strangeomi Am glad that you can see my point. However, while patient should be knowledgable with their medical health, the lay man might not have access to such information. Only peopel with computers or with medical background can be put in such a position. You as a doctor has an oblagation to your cleint to educate and provide necessary information about their disease process. The patient cannot diagnise themselves remember. Again there are few good doctors out there. Patient first-cheers

  • @smithlovekenya You are right.. I totally agree.. Realised this when I went abroad.. The knowledge base we have is good but we are handicapped in terms of facility at our disposal, and the checks are few in Kenya so we are bound to be complacent.. But as a member of the public, you should also be knowledgable on your own medical health. It keeps the Doctor in check and carefull.. But never underestimate your doctor.. Cheers

  • @strangeomi Your answer is exactly why things go wrong.Mistakes do happen, yes, but it's what you do about it that matters. So explain to me doctor, how does inserting an I.V kill anyone. Is it possible that the niddle was contaminated,or flushed with microbials? Doctors in kenya need to stop playing like they are some kind of god.You can have all the degrees, but if you cannot solve or in this case treat, then the degree is/are good for nothing. There are good doctors in kenya, but no supervasion

  • Anybody knows if there are laws to do with suing the hospitals or doctors for that matter as this should be away of dealing with this menace once and for all

  • I had a younger sister - 20 yrs old - die of a stomach ulcer at Moi Teaching and Referal Hospital in 2006 after being neglected for 2 days by the doctors. The government has to do something about this menace.

  • They should put them in jail.

  • Ah doctors in kenya are useless, they then scram into exile and end up driving taxis overseas and then wonder why

  • Juzi I almost stabbed a young doctor with a needle he had used to jab my child. He gave my child the wrong medicine. Thankfully, it was harmless. First class idiots!
