El grupo se formó en 1985 cuando se conocen Donita Sparks y Suzie Gardner. En un periodo de tres años grabaron su álbum de debut para Epitaph, telonearon en una gira a Bad Religion. En 1990 editan uno de los discos más impactantes e importantes del movimiento Sub Pop, Smell the Magic (Sub Pop).

@TeenMommiefromMars Awesome, I can't believe I forgot this was hers. Have you watched the documentary Streetwise? Mary Ellen Mark's photos of the Seattle street kids are pretty well known too. Her husband filmed it I believe. Great doc, you should watch if you haven't!

@katebridge I forget what magazine that is from, maybe LIFE? But it was the story of a troubled 9 year old. I have always wanted them to do follow up on it and see what became of her.
