This is part one of three of the video "Seeking The Tornado" (that's not its original name, for whatever reason the producers of this videotape decided to rename it. If you know what the original title of this film was please let me know). This is another storm spotter training video that features various tornadoes.

One of the tornadoes shown in this part is the Cordell, Oklahoma tornado that occurred on May 22, 1981. I think this is one of the coolest looking tornadoes ever caught on film.

There are some occasional glitches seen in the video because this tape is over ten years old and is quite worn, not to mention it runs at EP speed.

*UPDATED*

I'm going to attempt to identify which tornadoes are used in this video. Some of the tornadoes I don't know at all and will mark them with four question marks (????). Some of the tornadoes I'm not 100% sure about and will list what tornado I think it is but will place two question marks at the end (??). If anybody knows which tornadoes these are or if I labeled any of the tornadoes wrong please inform me so I can correct/update it.

0:06-0:25 Cordell, OK 5/22/1981
0:26-1:10 Tecumseh, OK 5/17/1981 (Thanks Anticyclonic and hfkjehgufihgiufewi for identifying it)
1:16-2:43 Little, OK 5/17/1981
2:48-6:34 Cordell, OK 5/22/1981
6:39-7:59 Alfalfa, OK #1 5/22/1981

  • Great job Colonel.

  • You seem to have a knack at picking out the best of the best twister footage. This one is another great video. As I watch these videos, I think how most people make the mistake of looking for that classic tornado appearance. That cone or funnel shape tornado. It seems more times than not, tornadoes have that lower based rotating wall cloud look. That is deadly because some people never see that coming. Also amazing is how some still do not pay attention to the weather warnings. Time saves lives!

  • "this is not the recommended way to view tornados" lol

  • @chrisjames1962

It's 240p because that's the best my old video capture card could do when I captured this. I've got a better capture device now but just haven't had the time to recapture this video yet. But I'm not sure if it would look much better because the video is old and was recorded at EP speed so it doesn't look that great to begin with.

And the quality of videos is determined by how good the quality of the video uploaded is and if it is encoded properly.

  • @TravisAllenTvChannel I mean the 240p stream rate. I've never uploaded anything to youtube, so i don't know how it works. Why do some people upload at 480p or better and others at 240p. Does youtube determine what rate it's uploaded at or do the people? Explain if you'd like. :-)

  • @chrisjames1962 Well the footage wasnt taken in 2005 ya know. This is as good as quality got back in those days :P

  • The quality is awful.

  • Colonel Angus, thank you for more great past tornado footage.

  • hey i still have these videos!

  • @romerofan123 you have to have been a director from before the time when youtube limited the length
