This is my first homemade instrument, and it was made entirely of items I found while riding my bike around town on a budget of $0. See http://homemadelapsteel.wordpress.com/ for the full story!

  • tuners!! tell me about those tuners!!!

i build lots of homemade stuff, check my channel... but really, those look like just SCREWS!! how did you attach the strings?

please tell me more about this instrument!!!! good job!!!!!

    :D

  • @unstrung13

Thanks for the compliments, I enjoyed your cigar box guitar, looks like a lot of fun to play. The tuners look like screws, because that's basically all they are. I drilled a 1/16" hole through the screws and ran the string through. Check out the link in the video info box for photos and details about the construction. Thanks for the comment!

  • Hi I just found your' lap steel in You Tube. You did a great job. I am impressed that you could stick to a "0" budget. I know your' little project would sound a lot better through a real amp. That would blow the budget thing though. Maybe you should try to build a "0" budget amp next. :O)

I did almost the same thing but it cost me around 60 bucks for the tuners, strings, pickup, pots and resisters. the rest came from my shop junk pile. I had a real good amp. Great job

  • hey that was cool good job

  • That works good! Well done! I love home made stuff!

  • Man, I love the way you hook the strings above the mute to do your bends- I've never seen that done before, and I'm knocked out- that is so cool... I gotta make one of these so I can learn how to do that! Great job brah-

  • @TheDeadlyKind If you want a really cheap pick up, you could just buy a piezo transducer and an 1/4th inch audio jack from Radio Shack and just make it yourself. It's called a contact mic and it'll probably cost you about $6 for both the parts. Their are many tutorials on how to make these contact mics on youtube as well as other places on the internet. Plus it can amplify just about anything so it's great for other instruments too!

  • Hi! I'm interested in what pick up you're using there. I'm building an instrument for school and I'm in need a of a (cheap) pair.

Also, I love the sound this thing makes.

  • Cool, I got a lot of the stuff already I should give it a try.

  • What tuning and what effects?

  • Great job, I'm working on one right now.

    What kind of pickup?

  • can you tell us something about this little amp.?
