A long time ago, in a lifetime far removed from this one, I used to build model kits like they were going out of fashion (which they did, after a fashion (?)). Every Saturday, armed with that week's pocket money, I'd head down to the local model shop (Brian Sheriffs if anyone cares to know) and in half an hour, my money would be gone, replaced instead with a pounding heart and a smiling face as I eagerly sat on the bus home to begin construction on my latest purchase - sneaking peeks inside the box to get a feel for the kit, be that a plane, tank, boat or whatever took my fancy!

Although this was a later attempt to rekindle that passion by combining it with another - an attempt that has since ground to a halt - I would really like to complete this at some stage in the not too distant future! Stay tuned... but like I said in the video, retained inhalations may prove dangerous to your health!

  • Please accept my most humble apologies... I totally missed this one.. but better late than never, as the saying goes! And whilst on that topic, has any progress been made?? :)

  • Not at all, Rob! I'm doing a little bit here and there, when not in the garden or at work and basically getting back into the swing of something I haven't really done in long time! It's like getting to loose your virginity all over again!

  • Oh cool I hope you do put it all together and show us! Thanks for the clip too you managed to pick a bit with my mum's old boyfriend in I'll have to show her. Cheers, Lesley

  • No way!!! Your mum went out with out with Admiral Ackbar??? To bad it didn't work out, although, I can't imagine having about 500 brothers and sisters would be much fun at Christmas!

  • May we ask if there is any progress by now??? The animation of your models was superb, looked like the real star wars...^^

  • Heh. I have been flying rockets a *lot* longer than I've had any sort of video equipment of any kind. Although one of my upcoming projects is a video recording rocket that a buddy wants to build.

You can take a look at SomeUselessGeek to see a couple of my rocket videos, but they aren't very useful.

  • Got any video evidence? ;)

  • They never actually expected that model to survive the entire flight, but the thrust forces on takeoff were just a little too heavy for the thing to even make any altitude. Oh, well.

I have occasionally shredded models at max-Q, but never a HPR. Always the small stuff. Even my mids are built to take the g-forces.

I've only shredded 18 and 24.8 mm stuff. Heh. Composite engines with long, small diameter airframes. Not a smart combination, but if they work it's really cool to watch.

  • Ever considered making a Star wars fighter as a flying rocket model? Theres a good video of a very expensive, very big x-wing model biting the dirt!

  • Hows it going?

  • I have actually used the "replacement parts" look on some of my current model rockets. One of the problems with flying model rockets is that the detail can't be too small or too fragile, because it won't survive a launch & recovery cycle.

I still make rear engine boost gliders with antenna fairings, instrument pods, pitot tubes, blah blah blah. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! Well, missiles instead of torpedoes, but you know what I mean.

  • I think he's at about 3:02 but when I checked the time it wasn't allowing comments, damned Empire! L
