Miami of Ohio stuns NIU 26-21 in MAC championship game
RedHawks convert 4th-and-20 en route to winning TD

December 04, 2010|By Fred Mitchell | Tribune staff reporterDETROIT — With Miami of Ohio facing fourth-and-20 on its 38-yard line, trailing by one with less than two minutes to play, Northern Illinois appeared poised to top off a record-setting season with a conference championship.

But freshman Austin Boucher completed an improbable 31-yard pass to Chris Givens that was tipped by an NIU defender, and two plays later Boucher found a wide-open Armand Robinson for a 33-yard touchdown that gave Miami a 26-21 victory in the Mid-American Conference championship game at Ford Field.
