And no, Superior doesn't have more surface area than all the other lakes combined, and Huron-Michigan is bigger. Read about it.

No, not a bio. but a geologist, seems you are the one arguing etc. You miss the point, and that is the Lakes are dangerous. Superior at its deepest known point is actually 1,332ft. deep, with an average depth of 482ft. Happy now? LOL We were on St. Clair in a 16ft outboard and were underwater twice and almost didn't make it; my folks got battered by 20ft waves on Huron and they were in a 65.5ft yacht and almost didn't make it but the Coast Guard manged to tow them into calmer waters; etc.

Are you a biologist or just someone who loves to argue? LOL. I know Lake St. Clair can get pretty choppy, but it has never snapped a 600' freighter. Lake Superior is 1200' deep with more surface area than all the other lakes combined. It is the closest thing to the ocean we have in these parts to be sure.

Interesting because there is still green leaves on some of the vegetation at the beginning of the video. There are some deciduous bushes that may hold their gren leaves until Nov. Yeah, 55F is warm for Nov. even in southern Mich. You say that the winds are 30-40mph, so I can see the larger waves that 50-100mph or so winds would kick up, Lake St. Clair can get 12ft. waves and it just boils.

had to be around sept, maybe oct for these kind of waves

Glad you all are OK. Fearsome video. The Great Lakes are hairy, including little old Lake St. Clair nxt to Detroit. I don't surf, but have nearly drowned before in St. Clair in a 16-foot boat hitting 6 to 10-foot waves. We troughed-out and were underwater twice. I got seasick for about 20-miniutes. We headed for deep water and the other boats right into the gale waves, then we caugt some Walleyes and went back. It was bad and we were lucky.

where else does it go off.. and what time of year.. i just got drug up to copper harbor in the up.. and it was a great ride.. but iv heard you can surf at grand haven and the mac bridge and what not ..but i dont know when to go
If it was mid November that one fellow probably wouldn't be wearing short sleeves. Whatever. That's some nasty water. I bet the current was bad around the point. Take some videos this balmy, wonderful winter if you can.

Well I was wearing my body Glove drysuit, so that means the water was cold and it was a West so that mean the air is a bit warmer than a NW. But it truly was around November 10 - I remember that clearly because that was the date the Edmund Fitzgerald went down and it was really close to that. The girl is cold in sweatshirt, so I am guessing its around 50-55, balmy for UP in Nov., but the way most of these storms go is from S or SW to W to NW and or N - temps drop rapidly as the wind shifts.

It was mid-November if I recall correctly. It was late in the afternoon, I just remember it building as it was getting dark. And that current around the hook was INSANE! It was a life changing experience for me to be sure.

Midget Smith built me a board for freshwater. LOVE it.
Keeping my weekends free in October for the right weekend to head to WP.

Beware, it is now illeagle to surf there according to park rangers. Of course, by the time of year when it gets good there, they are usually off duty for the season.
