I assume you feel that the best way to handle unruly and unpredictable behavior is to have judgement and punishment delivered by the police?

That worked well for you in this circumstance when you broke the law and they asked you to go away and hide your beer. How would you have felt if they cuffed you and threw you in the squad? Could that have happened? Do you know what to expect the next time?

We have the right to expect a certain consistency in government and in law enforcement.

There is no question that Omar's behavior was not acceptable. However, the police had no evidence that anything had happened to that point. The guy who complained rode up on a bicycle and complained. You can see him clearly in the video. The police were unaware of the incident prior to him stopping them. Without any evidence other than a complaint from a guy on the bicycle it seems the response was excessive.

@Plannerzone1 The question is not how long he lay on the street it is the surface temperature of the street. Pimpm3 I invite to take all your clothes off and go lay in the middle of the South and Front for two minutes in the hot sun at 2PM in the afternoon in early July. If you were there you also probably know that Omar put in the back of a squad car not an ambulance.

You need to ask what is the role of the police: Do they protect or do they judge then dole out punishment?

OK Here is the deal.

We were fooling around spraying folks with a hose on a hot 4th of July weekend. 99% of the folks loved it, even some police on horses loved it and actually insisted on it. Now things went south when I kicked it up a notch and started corraling folks towards the hose, and if that was not enough I actually grabbed a few steers by the handle bars to get them really drenched.

Well I was actually grabbing the biggest guys that came around and a few girls of course. Well after getting a few high fives and such from the folks I stopped while cutting it up, I managed to not only get slapped by this one stud, but actually punched, He did not even break the skin, I actually asked for another one. This is the guy who made it out to the cops as if I punched him.

The cops had been out there for hours looking for a reason to shut us down considering there where 4 parties in one. They gathered I was the rin leader considering how I was the one who shut the band down, and the one the lady pointed at for hosing her car while she was irrate at the party next door.

Long story short the cops I am standing there talking to a friend in a blissful state when I was jumped from behind by the cops. After breaking the grasp of the officier and turning around to acknowledge who it was that had jumped me, I proceeded to raise both my hands in the air and say I give I give, and that is when the rest of the officers showed up and took me down.

One officer claimed I was going for his gun, and I guess thats what led to my face being drilled to the pavement. Bottomline? Cop acted as Judge jury and prosecuter before even getting my side of the story, it was not as if I was so beligerant that he had to tackle me from behind. I was standing there harmlessly talking to a friend for Gods sake. In the end this is all water under the bridge, $350 DOLLARS day in jail and I am just about recovered from what was clearly a traumatic incident.

Did I have the punch coming from the a-hole on the bike? Yes, should the arresting officer showed civility rather than violance when looking to sort out the matter rathe than taking the one sided take? Yes. But it is what it is I chalk it up to friendly fire... My fourth of July fireworks started early.

I listened to what they said and was not arrested or ticketed. Am I wrong for listening to a police officer, when he is actually being cool instead of being a dick and harassing me. Sorry but I guess we have a difference of opinion.

I was not at Omar's per say but was in the area for awhile. I was mainly down by Margret through out the day.

I am just saying that getting arrested for being drunk and made to lay on the ground for 2 minutes would hardly qualify as police brutality. The fact of the matter is that Omar broke the law and was arrested after being warned multiple times. I too broke the law when I was drinking in the roadway as was everyone else, but I was smart enough to get a Solo cup and was never bothered again. If you are warned and continue to break the law don't get upset when you have to pay the consequences.

Attempting to put the facts together as acurately as possible for recommendations to the city. So far the police are unable to provide the name of the complainant. It sounds like you were at Omar's throughout. Were the hose users across the street to the North warned as well? Were you carded ?
