Filmed at the first NIST/DHS robot evaluation exercise at "Disaster City" Texas in 2006. The Talon carries a Toughbot and drops it into a hole in a roof. The Toughbot was broken but we set it up to show the utility of marsupial delivery of robots in usar environments.

  • Toughbot is a very small tossable robot that has a fair amount of mobility and a camera. I think it was originally intended as reconnaissance robot that can be tossed into a room but its use as an US&R robot is obvious.

The big thing is the tail an be grasped and held by and end effector. All robots were wirelessly controlled by human operators. The Toughbot in the video was actually non-functional as it had been pretty beaten up in previous tests and I was surprised it lasted that long.
