Clausewitz believe that theory was not useful as a guide to action but as helpful in education and to develope a soldiers judgement. He critizised Jomini for treating war as a science and being so perscriptive, while Jomini attacked Clausewitz for being so skeptical about theory.
You wont go too deep into Clausewitzs book without seeing some influence by German idealism, even though the only book he explicitly creditis for influencing his thought is Montesquieu's "The Spirit of the Laws".
First, I never stated that I didnt know who the Tecumseh were, I know of the tribe, and I know some basic knowledge, but I have never gone into great detail when studying them. I have never read the book that you recommended, for example, and I probably will be reading it soon.
And again, basically everything that you say is a meaningless ad hominem. You are not attacking what I say, you are attacking my personal character and intelligence, which is irrelevant to whether the policy is justified
@WV, I watched that one and will blog links to it later today. I see the the book is expected in May.
I'm looking forward to John Lewis' _Nothing Less Than Victory_, which is expected next month. Many years ago, I attended a lecture where he reviewed material from an early draft of this book; excellent stuff.
It would be a waste of my time discussing anything substantially with an Anarchist; therefore, I pursued the limit of my interest in you: I poked, observed, and confirmed my diagnosis.
Re: my job, I correctly identified that you did not qualify to discuss the issue because of your lack of knowledge. I have no obligation to fix you. I dismissed you with cause as unworthy.
I would not do that so quickly with the average person, but you label yourself an Anarchist; relevant translation: someone who is ignorant of history and politics, and processes information Rationalistically based upon concepts not validated against reality.
No assumptions on my part; I hypothesized that you lacked basic knowledge, tested with a question, and you demonstrated your ignorance.
Further, it is not an issue of your prior effort, but your lack of basic facts. Seriously, you dont know who Tecumseh is and you assert that you know the history fairly well.
You have a bad habit of assuming that I havn't researched native american conflicts with the US. I happen to know the history fairly well, and if I am wrong about some of these things I am willing to learn. It is your job, when you claim that I am ignorant, to show me resources where I can find information that can correct my supposedly ignorant view. Without doing this, your attacks ring ad hominem since you are claiming that I am ignorant without presenting my ignorance factually.
Thank you for the recommendations!
