Woobiboy is an educational but entertaining animation for children originally created as a character for an e-card. The popularity of the character enabled its' re-creation as a web-animation in 2001, then a TV series in 2003, followed by the second season of the show in 2005.
'Woobi' means a raincoat in Korean and the title "Woobiboy" refers to a boy who always wears a raincoat -- thus his name become woobi. This nine year old boy, with his 5 friends, Baet-sal Gong-ju, Ggot-nim-ee, Ban-jang, Elbi-su, and Ota, goes around his pretty little town Do-to-ri Ma-eul, looking for exciting adventures waiting to happen. On their way to school on the first day of a new semester, Woobi and his 5 friends see a stationary store called Penguin Moon-bang-goo, whose owner, surprisingly, also looks like a penguin. They enter the store out of curiosity, and turns out there are far more interesting things than ordinary notebooks and pencils in the stack. The kids become more excited as they discover amazing items such as a 'flute that makes farting noise' or the 'long lost lamp of Aladdin'.
Woobi was selected in the top ten best characters of the year in 2002, and further placed the 9th in the most popular characters of the same year. Humorous and adorable, Woobi and his friends have long been loved by the audience as the series have continued to provide entertaining and comical episodes.
