Just me riffing on a tune that comes from the fiddling of Snake Chapman. Played on a custom Whyte Laydie made by Will Fielding, tuned to A modal.

  • The only other video I've seen of this tune is of my friends Larry Crismond and Debby White playing in the kitchen. Larry has undertaken to teach me melodic claw hammer this past year and while challenging, it's so much fun, especially in a jam! That banjo of yours has a lovely ring. It looks like an 11 " pot. Is it, if you don't mind? I'm getting ready to buy a better instrument and I have an 11 now. I'm told a 12" might be better, but size isn't anything here. It's the sound!

  • @willsoflo Yup, this one is an 11" pot with Whyte Laydie tone ring and bracket band. 11 v. 12, in my opinion, isn't better or worse, just different.

  • I love the soft ringing sound. Also, I notice you have a gourd banjo in the background. Do you have any videos of yourself playing it?

  • @federhoof Yup, there are two older videos of me playing the gourd on my page: "Darling Corey" and "Raleigh and Spencer". Hopefully someday soon I'll get around to adding new videos...! Thanks for watching.

  • wow! i'm impressed! you're good! very smooth! do you play with your index or middle finger? why do you stick your indect finger out when you play higher up on the banjo?

  • @slimpickensrx woopsie, you asked a year ago and I missed it. I have no idea why I stick my right hand index out when my left hand goes up the neck. I think some wires are just crossed somewhere...

  • Funny. As I go up the neck, I tend to use my middle nail for melody, swiching back to index below the fith fret. Yeah. Wires crossed somewhere, for sure!

  • I forgot to mention something very important. You play pretty! Thanks for posting this tune. I hope to learn it soon.

  • @pablo17851 Yes, the banjo is tuned aEADE or A modal.

  • Thanks for a

  • Very nice. Are you in A modal?
