Follow the instructions in the video to make a light bulb oil lamp. It's is fairly simple and is alot of fun to make. There are many different ways to go about making it, but this is the way that i've found works best. Scented oils, a different base, and different wick material are all things you can adjust to your prefernce. If you use shoe string as the wick, get some that are pure cloth. Those with any synthentic materials will melt fairly quickly.

There a few things I would like to mention as the 10 minute youtube limit didn't allow to say everything. The wick will slowly burn down to the cap, at which time you will need to pull the wick back out a bit. Also when the lamp is burnt, it lets off a smell. Just as all oil lamps do (i assume). It's not a smoky smell.

One question that you might have is about safety. Well, I tested dropping a lit light bulb oil lamp. When the lamp hit the ground, the flame went out and the oil did not light. The oil that I used is rated as 'combustible' and not 'flammable' like gasoline. This basically means that it must be hotter to ignite than gasoline. This makes it much safer. Regardless, be careful with it, as can accidents can still happen. Do not leave it unattended.

Enjoy your Oil lamp!!

  • @yumi6365 yes you can use it. I learned from someone else, it wasn't actually my invention

  • looks very dangerous you can catch on fire with that set up dud .

i would not use it all oil lamps only cost 4 - 7 bucks man if you drop it the bulb will easily brake the oil will easily get on your pants and burn your cox and balls off !!!

  • @GYPSYRICKPA

I appreciate the concern dude. I actually tested out breaking a lit one by dropping it. Once it hit the ground the flame went out and didn't ignite the oil. The oil is not near as dangerous as gasoline, because the oil has to be hotter to ignite than the gasoline. Also, if you drop a match into a cup of oil it will ignite. Regardless safety is important yo :-)

  • Nice tutorial man :) I have a different thing to do with a bulb, you can open it and put some stuff like sand, stones, twigs or even a dry butterfly inside, then under the metal cap put a diode, then close it up again and make like a little stand from a coat hanger wire. It makes a nice decoration and at night the stuff inside gets illuminated by that diode.

That sounds great dude, you should totally put together a video on it!
