Two teachers sit down to learn about math teaching from a man who is Bill Gates' favorite teacher.

Our primary purpose with this video was to get a conversation started. We realized that the satire would put some people off but many teachers have tried to engage Khan Academy in a reasonable discussion and present their case to the media about issues with this approach with little to show for it. Now that the conversation has started and Sal himself has said he is listening and looks forward to more critiques, the time has come to raise the level of the discussion. That is why several bloggers have suggested 101 Critiques and Lessons.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/c...

We are looking for at least 101 bloggers to offer a video critique of a Khan Academy video and then share an alternative lesson on that concept. The goal is for all the participants to post the critiques and lessons on August 14th (the day before the deadline for the MTT2K prize). Perhaps the sheer volume of resources will convince the media to acknowledge that while Sal Khan's approach has it's place, he could still learn something from teachers.

Its ok to think diferent and to criticize others but this is not the way to do it , this is plain childish behavior. The fact that these 2 guys are teachers is scary !

I noticed that, at 11:14, you laugh at him asking students to think on their own time, as though you feel that your students are subhuman creatures without such functionality. I took the time to think, and here I am taking the time to think in classes that require a lot of time thinking. So take that attitude of yours and shove it straight up your condescending, uncaring asses. You are not worthy of being teachers.

So, thanks to Khan Academy, I will be able to do what I love, something that assholes like you will undoubtedly ruin for your own students.

    Thanks for nothing, assholes.

I found Khan Academy when I was 15. I had finally decided that I would make something of myself. With Khan Academy, I was able to get my GED and score well enough on the ACT to get a full scholarship to a local community college at 16. From there, I decided to further pursue my love of mathematics. So, I am currently an undergraduate at the University of South Alabama, where I've found brilliant professors who know and are passionate about what they do.

I was taken out of public school in the middle of 7th grade after Hurricane Katrina due to bullying that teachers like you, who give no real critique on the subject matter, did nothing about (and even participated in) and my terrible fear of leaving home after watching everything that I knew destroyed in the flood waters. I was tossed aside by a system that didn't feel like helping those who had trouble dealing with the very problems that it created.

Teachers/professors ridiculing what's the free, more accessible, future of education? You don't say.

The assholes and their current archaic, ineffective, scam of an educational system feel threatened.

It wouldn't be because they make tons of money doing something that was clearly designed for another time?

If the best criticisms you can give of Khan are sloppy handwriting and one incorrect mention of a property, you know he's doing something right. Also, Bill Gates never said he was the "best teacher in the world." He is probably the most innovative one.

The fact remains that what Sal Khan has done is reached out to thousands of people that otherwise would not have had the opportunity these basic subjects in Mathematics. Many people are better off because of Khan's videos and to some people it probably changed their lives. So there is some mistakes in accuracy, and sometimes he rambles and goes off topic, and can not spell things correctly, but what he manages to do what 90 percent of teachers couldn't do is invoke a natural curiosity.
