July 7, 2011 -- On a trip back to my hometown, I visited a special place to me and experienced some great dance flow during an amazing sunset that evolved over the course of a few hours. The integrated 'poem' is loosely based off another I wrote a few years ago, and grows from the song -- "Red Eye" by The Album Leaf -- which also holds a special place in my memory, and is one of my all-time favorites. Put together, the text reads:
Sometimes I return home
to burn something away
Like a pilgrimage
to erase an old self
And leave a different residue
to spite those fears of flame
As if the blazing heat
could solidify a nebulous self
And keep the darkness at bay.
Who am I, really?
A hundred selves of mine
have stood atop this hill
But today I dance upon it
while the sky does the burning.
that poem is as lovely as the sunset
