  • can you review VAT 69 ?

  • @SteleaTube

    yes, happening soon !

  • @ralfystuff Ralfy, has Black Bottle deterioriated since you did this review 21 months ago? I bought a bottle of this stuff today but apart from some noticeable Laphroaigh at the finish I did not recognise anything from your review. I found the nose was a horribly off-putting mixture of molasses and rubber, as was the delivery. Only the finish was acceptable.

  • @Pogglefish

Unfortunately, a number of whiskies are deteriorating in standard due to cost-cutting and increased demand. .... this trend will get worse in my opinion.

  • Ralfy I think my senses are seriously messed up. I caught a whiff and a taste of bacon bits in this one. Mainly a nasal aroma tho. In this sitting I went from Glenmorangie 10yr, to Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, and then went to the Black bottle from that being sure to cleanse my palate with water in between. Mind you I'm a total novice and Glenmorangie 10 yr is the first single I've ever had, what do you make of it? Bacon Bits???

  • @Tampanda

Black bottle certainly has some savoury notes.

  • @Pogglefish I had a similar experience with my most recent bottle, but adding an extra spoonful of water helped tremendously. The nose went from horrible to a subtle but distinct hint of Bunnahabhain. The delivery went from harsh to more or less neutral, and there was more Bunnahabhain on the finish.

  • What a week of good 'fishing'. I pickup up a 5th of Black Bottle for $21, in the bag and out the door (meaning tax inclusive). I found Black Bottle to be very good; an excellent alternative to the Glenfiddich 12 I also have on hand at this time.

Also, realizing my sipping vessels need upgrading and following Ralfy's lead, I bought a pair of the Glencairn glasses from an Amazon.com-associated dealer for $20, shipping included. My Jack Daniels tumber will now be used for spare change.

  • @ralfystuff Better stock up on Uigeadail and Quarter Cask then?!??!

  • piss head

  • This has a really off-putting sweet smell to it which I didn't notice in any of the Islay whiskys I've tried so far, or any other single malt. Is that the "delightful grain"? In fact this smell kept me away from the delights of whisky for 2 decades because the first Whisky I tried ( a Johnny Walker ) also had that smell so I thought that is "Whisky smell". Is this just me or does anyone else feel like this?
