The Indian government has introduced legislation to prevent parents from engaging in testing to determine the sex of their fetuses. Traditionally, many pregnant women in India experience intense pressure from family members to abort female fetuses. Due to prejudices, parents view girls as an economic burden as they have to come up with dowries when they marry. The UN Population Fund is working with communities and schools to educate people about gender equality.

  • A searching question to ask someone who is (so-called) pro-choice: Should it be legal for a woman to abort a fetus only because it is female? Many will say "no" - thus opposing their view that an abortion should always be the woman's choice.

  • Thanks. Dharma protects those who protect dharma.
